Desert Mission enhances services for job placement and success

If you’re like most, a job search process can be daunting. From how to find and apply for jobs, to navigating the interview process, it can all seem overwhelming. And if you’re struggling with extra challenges such as needing transportation to interviews or an interview-ready outfit, you know how difficult finding the right job can be.

Desert Mission is taking this head-on. As part of the organization’s emphasis on an individual’s total wellbeing, Desert Mission has partnered with St. Joseph the Worker to bring focused employment resources to those who need support in finding and/or maintaining gainful employment. These services include:

  • Job readiness coaching.
  • Resume writing.
  • Online application coaching.
  • Interview preparation.
  • Support for employment (e.g., assistance with uniform requirements, transportation, and other work essentials once employment is secured and verified).
  • Hiring events.

“St. Joseph the Worker is a total employment agency, so whatever a person would need for seeking employment or maintaining a job we’ll support,” said Denise Burns, St. Joseph the Worker’s employment outreach specialist dedicated to Desert Mission.

“Making small, strategic steps consistently makes for success,” Denise says about her approach to working with clients. “It’s not just resume writing and job leads. I’m hands-on in providing resources throughout the process.”

G’Kyshia Hill-Hughes, Desert Mission’s outreach manager, says, “Through our Living Well program, we’re focusing on the total wellness of Desert Mission’s clients. As we’re fulfilling the needs of food security and care for the family, we’re also supporting a person’s financial and career goals, whether it’s better budgeting, home ownership or gainful employment.”
